Corsica Hotel Rates

With so much pessimism and concern about the global economy I feel it is time I devote some space to discuss the cost of travel to Corsica.

Based on my current Google Analytics stats, a large number of visitors to this site (to my surprise) are based in the U.S. therefore I will discuss data from U.S. hotels on this post.

In case you are wondering, How Much does it cost to travel to Corsica? hotel room rates are roughly the same as those in the United States.

A one week stay in the U.S. (average hotel rate $100-150/night) costs the same as a one week stay in Corsica, even taking into account the Euro exchange rate. (Recall that the Euro has been higher than the US Dollar for at least the past 6 years).

Hotel taxes and other hidden (mandatory) charges in the U.S. can add an additional 13-15% to the total cost of your hotel stay.

Airfare

If you live in the U.S. or Canada the biggest expense is getting to Corsica. If you accumulate frequent flyer miles or if you take advantage of special offers (“Fly to Paris for $300 from New York if you reserve by so and so date”) you can offset the cost of air travel.

Without any discounts, the average airfare cost from North America to Corsica is about $1,000.00 per person plus taxes. This is assuming a direct flight from the US during the month of April, with 1 stop in Paris and 1 stop in Nice or Marseille.

Lodging

Accommodations in Corsica range from campgrounds to luxurious 4 and 5 star hotels and private villas that cater to the most discriminate taste. There are also two Club Med villages on the island, vacation rentals and B&Bs.

Many tourist locations in the U.S. charge higher weekend rates so that a weekend in South Beach will often cost more than 3 nights during regular weekdays. In Corsica room rates are based on the season and not on the day of the week so rates tend to remain flat throughout the week except for major holidays.
