Sometimes it Pays to Put Things Off
More good news for those who’ve been putting off travel plans for fears about the economy: airlines continue to offer great deals on airfares to Europe.
Travelers can now expect to grab round-trip flights from the US to Europe in the low $200s up to the $400 range.
This is also a good time to find bargains in hotel rooms since demand has dropped due to a decrease in the number of travelers.
Recently I received an offer from Kayak on Lufthansa’s huge sale to over 50 European cities. Fares start at $204 each way based on round trip purchase.
If you live in the US, you can fly to London or another major European city and then take a flight on a discount carrier like Ryanair or EasyJet to your final destination. Be aware that you’ll probably have to catch a shuttle and change airports (well worth it if you can save $500 or more on airfare).
Below are some sample one-way fares from the US based on round trip purchase:
New York – Berlin $204 San Francisco – Zurich $285
Boston – Madrid $272 New York – Amsterdam $308
Chicago – Paris $318 Seattle – Rome $334
To take advantage of these deals, be sure to sign up for email alerts with Kayak, Airfarewatchdog.com, and Farecompare.com.
Despite concerns about the economy, I’ve actually noticed a surge in the number of ‘nomadic-flashpacking-life-style-design’ travel blogs from people seeking more authentic travel experiences.
