Campomoro
Campomoro is a seaside village with a long sandy beach, nestled in a secluded bay, near the town of Sartene. A visit to Campomoro makes an easy day trip from Ajaccio or Bonifacio.
A good spot to capture panoramic photos of the bay and the village, with the Campomoro tower in the background, is at the top of the hill before descending to the village.
Once you arrive at Campomoro, an easy 10 to 15 minute walk takes you to one of the most unique Genoese watchtowers on the island. Built in 1586, this tower with its surrounding wall resembles a small fortress. The Moors set up a strategic base in this area around the 9th century, after killing and driving away many of the island’s inhabitants; Hence the name, Campomoro (Camp of the Moors).
Visitors can climb up and explore its interior and enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Valinco. A coastal walk at the foot of the tower, leads to a trail through the uninhabitted coast south of Campomoro.
