Hiking in Corsica – Online Resources
For information on hiking in Corsica I highly recommend two online resources geared to budget-minded and independent travelers:
This site describes several long distance walks and day hikes and includes:
- A detailed map and itinerary of every stage of the GR20 from Calenzana (near Calvi) to Conca (near Porto-Vecchio).
- A review of the Mare a Mare Nord trail
- A complete and concise travel guide to Corsica (useful to all travelers).
- Two (2) discussion forums (one for the GR20 trail and one for general questions).
- A rich photo gallery with images of the island’s mountain scenery.
- GPS data and much more.
On the ‘blog’ section of this site, be sure to scroll-down to the bottom of the page and click on the next link to view all the linked pages. The GR20 requires at least 15 days to complete.
This site describes three major trails that traverse the island from coast to coast with fantastic views of mountain and sea:
- The Mare a Mare Centre, a 7 day hike from Ghisonaccia on the East coast to Porticcio (near Ajaccio) on the West coast.
- The Mare e Monti Sud, a 5 day hike from Burgo (near Propriano) to Porticcio (near Ajaccio), along the south-western coast of Corsica.
- The Mare a Mare Sud, a 5 day hike from Porto-Vecchio on the East coast to Burgo (near Propriano) on the West coast.
A ‘practical tips’ page provides a packing list and related links.
Corsica-hiking takes you by the hand through each stage of every trail with in-depth descriptions, photos and even a video.
Information on Other Hikes
- The article series Exploring the Heart of Corsica describes the trails along side the Restonica and Tavignano Gorges.
- Two highlights on the Restonica trail: Lac de Melo and Lac de Capitello.
- Scenic Coastal hike in the Northern Coast: Sentier des Douaniers.
- If you would like the convenience of a guided trekking tour where they carry most of your gear and prepare your meals each day sign up to receive my Easy Guide to Trekking in Corsica.
Happy Trails!

Hi Liz,
I just discovered your site and I’m happy I’ve found another fan of this fantastic island! Being a hiker myself I’m really in love with its mountains and its wilderness.
In 2010 and 2011 I hiked the northern and southern section of the GR20 and shot 2 55-minute documentary films of my experience there. I’d like to share them with you and your readers and I’d be honored if you deemed them worthy to be linked in your site.
They are embedded on my website and can be individually seen on vimeo.com at the following addresses:
http://vimeo.com/15061401 for the GR20 North and
http://vimeo.com/29148378 for the GR20 South
I hope you enjoy them.
Best luck
Michele (or Mike)
Ciao Michele!
Thank you for sharing those awesome videos!! Wish more people could watch this on cable TV. I’ll make sure future visitors to this site can enjoy this experience by posting the links on a future post.
All my best,
Liz
