Kayaking in Corsica
Sea Kayaking
With a string of sandy coves and pristine waters, most of the coastline in Corsica is ideal for kayaking.
Kayaking is a sport that perfectly complements hiking since it provides a great upper body workout. Feeling your boat glide through the water while feasting your eyes on the blue and green water colors is a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Sea kayaking doesn’t require much gear and in Corsica it is possible to hire a kayak for about 50 Euros a day.
Select locations for sea kayaking can be found in Calvi, St. Florent, Cap Corse, Porto Vecchio, the Gulf of Sperone near Bonifacio, the beach of Roccapina, the bay of Campomoro in the golf of Valinco, Ajaccio, Scandola, Porto… pretty much all around the island.
Extreme Kayaking
From March to April, white water kayaking (canoe kayak in French) is also practiced in the interior of the island, where deep gorges in the river beds provide enjoyment to thrill seeking paddlers.
Because of its mountainous terrain, Corsica offers kayaking enthusiasts some of the most challenging gradients in all of Europe. The Fium Orbo river includes several cascading sections were kayaks become airborne as they glide through them. This river has a few drops that are 7-10 meters high that should only be attempted by the most skilled and experienced paddlers.
Less hazardous but still enjoyable river rafting can also be found in the Gravona river which has runnable waterfalls, the Golo and the Tavignano.
Corsica is a top destination for active holidays and just as there are hiking trails for all fitness levels, from the most demanding ones like the GR20 to the least challenging trails that border the sea, there are plenty of opportunities for kayakers to enjoy Corsica’s amazing outdoors, whether at sea or on fresh rolling streams of water.

Hi Liz,
I had no idea of such diverse activities like kayaking are available in Corsica. Looks magnificent.
Lance
Thanks Lance. There’s also sailing, diving, horse-backriding, rock-climbing… you name it, though for snow skiing Bansko is the place.
